Abstract:
Human Resource is a major feature which is used to add competitive advantage in many
organizations. Thus it is vital to take care of the employees and take necessary actions to improve
employee performance. However performance can be significantly either increased or decreased
by the intervention of training and development to their career. Therefore the study analyses the
impact of factors of training and development on work performance at the leading eCommerce
organization in Sri Lanka. Training and development help employees to develop many insights to
their life as well as their careers. Every individual is gifted with some sort of an ability to begin
with and it‟s our duty to polish it optimize the skills, add more skills and use it to achieve the vision
of our organization. Furthermore, it contributes to improve or decrease the quality of work.
The main objectives of the study is identify the major factors of training and development having
an influence to employee performance, and to find out the relationship between factors of training
and development and employee performance and to identify suitable recommendations for
implementing a proper training and development procedure for the company which would mainly
focus on improving employee performance.
Among many areas in Training and Development the researcher has elected four factors to be
analyzed in this study. They are Training Need Analysis, Frequency of Training held, Method of
Training conducted and the Quality of the trainer. All of these variables were analyzed with an
association to the employee performance of the company. Subsequently the literature review
evidently identifies the above factors with the views of preceding academics and based on
previous literature.
Afterwards preliminary study was carried out at the leading eCommerce organization and the list
of hypothesis was developed. The population of the study and sample selected equates to the
same amount of 50 employees in the eCommerce organization staff cadre. A structuredxi
questionnaire was designed, pre-tested and used to collect data from the selected sample whilst
secondary data was collected through reliable websites, company report and journal articles. The
research findings revealed that all the components tested as per developed hypothesis showed that
there is a positive relationship between Training and Development and employee performance.
Therefore research findings specify that the employee performance of the staff cadre of the
eCommerce organization has a relation to Training and Development provided by the company.
Thus, it can be demonstrated that the Training and Development has a significant impact on
employee performance.
