Abstract:
An organization's success and effectiveness are heavily reliant on the job performance of its employees.
Peer support is one factor that may have an impact on employee job performance. Peer support is a type of social
support provided by co-workers who have similar experiences and challenges at work. This support can take many
forms, including emotional, practical, and informational support. This study aims to examine the impact of Peer
Support on Managerial Employees Job Performance in a selected private telecommunication company in
Colombo district, Sri Lanka. This research also aims to determine the impact of three types of peer support
(Emotional Peer Support, Practical Peer Support, and Informational Peer Support) on Managerial Employees’ Job
Performance. The data were collected from 242 Managerial employees among 567 population using simple
random sampling method in the selected Telecommunication company in Colombo District, Sri Lanka by
administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted of 38 statements with 5 points scale adapting the social
exchange theory developed by George Homans. The data analyses included the univariate, bivariate, and
multivariate analyses. The findings of the study are that all types of peer support in the study have a positive and
significant impact on Managerial Employee Job performance in the selected company. As per the multiple
regression analysis, 53.8% of the variance in the job performance of Managerial employees has been accounted
for by the three independent variables jointly. There are few empirical studies of the impact of peer support on
employee job performance in Sri Lanka. This study will serve as a foundation for future research in the country.
