Abstract:
In the active landscape of the Sri Lankan government sector, increasing employee productivity is a main
factor for organizational success and the development. This case study aims to empirically examine the correlation
between Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and employee productivity in the context of the Sri Lankan
government sector. By targeting on an extensive case study approach, as a researcher I am looking at the
relationship between established KPIs and their impact on overall efficiency and effectiveness of Sri Lankan
government service personnel. This case study as a researcher I worked on a mixed-methods approach, but mainly
concerns qualitative insights gathered through interviews and surveys. The study population comprises different
government departments of ministries within the Sri Lankan government sector, allowing for a delicate
investigation of the relationships between KPIs and employee productivity across various organizational units.
The findings of this case study will contribute to the operating body of knowledge by providing insights into the
specific KPIs that exhibit a significant correlation with employee productivity in the Sri Lankan government
sector. Additionally, the case study aims to identify potential challenges and opportunities associated with the
implementation of KPIs in this unique organizational context. This case study holds practical implications for
government administrative service officers, government service policymakers, and ministries and department
heads pursuing to enhance workforce productivity and performance. The outcomes are expected to inform
evidence-based decision-making processes, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and guide the
development of tailored strategies to enhance employee productivity within the Sri Lankan government sector.
Ultimately, the study contributes to the broader discourse on performance management in the public sector and
offers valuable lessons for similar contexts worldwide.
