Abstract:
Universities are centres for learning and research and play an
important role in the knowledge production process. Throughout
history, established universities in the world and in Sri Lanka have
supported development via the political, technological, economic,
social and cultural aspects of a particular country and the world as a
whole. One of the main functions is of universities producing
employable graduates, which has become an important role in Sri
Lanka as well as in the world. According to contemporary literature
and statistics, unemployment among graduates is approximately above
than 50% and Sri Lanka is not an exception. The objective of the paper
to explore the reasons why the Management faculties of Sri Lankan
universities. Interviews and focus group discussion were used as a tool
for data collection tool under qualitative method was adopted to study
the Sri Lankan phenomenon. The paper argues that weak in
coordination and cooperation among the various stakeholders specifically between academic and industries influenced by quality of
academics, strengths of curriculum and lacks of industrial linkages are
causes for unemployment among Management graduates in state
university in Sri Lanka.
