Abstract:
The investigation's primary goal is to determine how rewards affect employee absenteeism at
a particular textile firm in Sri Lanka. The researcher chose a mixed research approach, which
includes both qualitative and quantitative analysis, to carry out the inquiry. Primary data were
gathered by the researcher for both quantitative and qualitative studies, with data for
quantitative analysis coming from questionnaires and for qualitative analysis through
interviews. Although the qualitative data were evaluated using theme analysis, the
quantitative primary data were analyzed in the study using SPSS software. The findings of
the quantitative analysis found that the variable of allowances and non-training or education
has a significant relationship with employee absenteeism whereas incentives and work
flexibility had no relationship with absenteeism. When it comes to the qualitative
investigation, the findings showed that the effect of poor rewards is employee turnover and
absenteeism, poor performance, employee dissatisfaction, and other negative effects. As well
as the recommendations to reduce employee absenteeism are to enhance incentives, enhance
investments in new rewarding plans, enhance employee satisfaction, and so on. The interview
also suggested different strategies to perform different rewards as employees expected
according to their opinion to support quantitative findings. Therefore the study recommended
using a proper rewarding strategy which has been able to reduce employee absenteeism.
