Abstract:
In the present dynamic and competitive business environment many employees are struggling to
maintain balance between their work life and family life. Thus, organizations highly encourage work life balance
through sustainable work policies to ensure better quality of work. Abrupt increase in attention towards work life
balance has occurred among scholars due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation as during the pandemic period work
life balance entirely shifted to a different form. Hence it is significant to each and every organization specially
banking sector which face aggressive competition to have knowledge on work life balance and its impacts during
pandemic to mold their culture according to the dynamic changes to ensure sustainable growth. The key objective
of this study was to identify the impact of work life balance on executive female employees’ commitment at a
large state commercial bank’s corporate division in pandemic situation. Independent variable of the study
considered as the work life balance which include several dimensions namely; time balance, strain balance and
behavior balance. Whereas dependent variable, employee commitment. The researcher used a structured
questionnaire to collect secondary data using random sampling method. All the female officer grade employees
currently attached to corporate division at Bank of Ceylon were taken as population which is around 297 at present
and data were collected randomly from selected 124 sample respondents. Four hypotheses were formulated to
attain objectives of the study. Statistical analysis such as descriptive analysis, linear regression analysis and
multiple regression analysis are used in this study and the result of the study showed that time balance, strain
balance and behavior balance of female officer grade employees are individually and altogether as a work life
balance significantly effects on employee commitment towards the bank in pandemic situation which are
supported by statistical evidence. Future research may be extended to identify the impact of work life balance on
employee commitment of employees irrespective to the gender and by focusing on employees from every
geographical part in the island and also the study may have conducted using other variables that may differentially
affect work life balance.
