Abstract:
In the current era of highly volatile business environment, organizations are facing
emerging achieving operational excellence with the intention to offer a competitive
advantage and secure lasting results for their customers. The most crucial factor that
affects the organization performance is its employee since human resources are
considered as a source of sustainable competitive advantage. The workplace
environment gives an immense impact to the employees either towards the negative
outcomes or positive outcomes. The objective of this study was to examine the impact
of the workplace environment on employee performance among non-executive
employees of ABC Porcelain Company in Matale.
In this research study, employee performance was the dependent variable and
workplace environment selected as the independent variable. Under the workplace
environment, three sub independent variables were identified. Job aids, supervisor
support & physical work environment. Based on these sub variables, three hypotheses
were developed to test in the study. To carry out this research, quantitative
methodology was used. Simple random sampling was used and 30% of production
assistant level employees (260 employees) were selected from ABC Porcelain
Company as the sample size. Pre-structured questionnaire was used to collect primary
data and secondary data was collected using, productivity reports and website
information in the company.
Final results of this research indicate that there is significant positive relationship
between workplace environment and employee performance and job aid as the most
critical predictor. Implications of the findings and recommendations are offered.
