Abstract:
This research was carried out by considering one of the leading hotels in order to determine the impact of job stress on employee performance in the hotel industry in Sri Lanka. Currently, both the Guest Satisfaction Survey Scores and Employee Engagement Survey Scores of the particular hotel were declining over the recent past years that should be concerned. The main objective to determine the impact of the job stress on employee performance was fulfilled by achieving the four sub-objectives of the study. Job security, workload, role ambiguity and adherence to timelines were the independent variables of the study and the employee performance was the dependent variable of this study. A sample of 175 employees was chosen using proportionate stratified random sampling method. A questionnaire consisted of 35 questions covering demographic factors, independent and dependent variables was distributed among the sample. Quantitative research method was used in order to carry-out this study. The data analysis of this research was performed using SPSS Software. The acceptability of hypotheses developed based on the variables were determined using Pearson’s correlation. As per the findings, all four null hypotheses were rejected, and the alternative hypotheses were accepted. The independent variables job security, role ambiguity and adherence to timelines have moderate negative relationship and workload has a weak negative relationship with employee performance. Moreover, the impact of job stress on employee performance was ascertained using multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the findings, the researcher has
provided recommendations such as delegating the tasks properly, recruit seasonal employees, revisit JDs, implement stress management programs including meditation programs and wellbeing tips to increase employee performance. In conclusion, the researcher succeeded in achieving the objectives of the study through the study conducted on employees of particular hotel in an objective manner.
