Abstract:
There had been an ongoing absenteeism issue among the minor staff employees of the selected public
sector hospital. Therefore, this study was mainly focused on finding out the factors contributing to absenteeism
and to provide insights on how to prevent and mitigate the problem of absenteeism.
The study was based on Herzberg’s two factor theory on employee absenteeism and due to time constrains only
four factors namely advancement, work itself, pay and reward and work conditions had been analyzed.
A sample of 123 was selected after simple random sampling and a self-administered questionnaire was distributed
among the minor staff employees of the hospital. Data analysis was done using both inferential and descriptive
statistical methods. A correlation was detected between employee absenteeism and the four factors analyzed.
Recommendations were provided on the findings of the analysis.
