| dc.description.abstract | This paper reports research insight on the role and effects of privacy-intrusive sexual harassment and assault experienced by a female employee at a private sector organization in a case study research design. The data were gathered through a researcher-developed interview schedule, and they were thematically analyzed. Findings revealed the existence of sexting, verbal sexual assault, intimidation, and an instance of quid pro quo where the victim was promised steady employment in exchange for a sexual bribe with the unit head of the agency where the victim was employed. The findings have implications for organizations and employed women. Creating and enacting a transparent and realistic anti-harassment policy ensuring that all employees are aware of the organization's stance on sexual harassment and repercussions for breaking company rules is recommended. Fostering a gender-friendly environment where employees may report sexual harassment without fear of retaliation is also suggested. Inculcating polite behaviour and open communication, fostering a harassment-free working atmosphere, and consistently stressing the importance of friendly workplace rapport are also suggested. The employer is required to hold accountable for sexual harassment incidents. Taking disciplinary action against harassers is recommended an immediate termination of their job based on hard evidence or domestic inquiry with a legal counsel may also be recommended. Future research may be conducted across different industries and different job categories and the role of workplace culture in preventing sexual harassment, the impact of organizational structures on human dignity and the role of bystander intervention in promoting workplace dignity may be researched. | en_US |
