Abstract:
Workplace bullying is a critical issue that adversely affects employees’ mental health and physical well being and overall workplace dynamics. This study investigates the impact of workplace bullying on employee
wellbeing, with a specific focus on the moderating role of individual resilience. Conducted in the apparel industry
in Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, the research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing structured questionnaires based on
a five-point Likert scale. The key variables examined include workplace bullying, employee mental and physical
wellbeing, and individual resilience. Data analysis was performed using SPSS, employing correlation and
regression techniques. The findings indicate that workplace bullying significantly harms employee wellbeing.
However, individual resilience plays a crucial role in mitigating these negative effects, highlighting its importance
as a protective factor. The study also reveals a complex relationship between workplace bullying and resilience,
suggesting that while resilience helps employees cope, its role in workplace dynamics requires further exploration.
This study underscores the importance of fostering a supportive work environment through mental health
initiatives, leadership training, and conflict resolution programs to minimize the negative effects of workplace
bullying. Limitations include the study’s geographic and industry-specific focus, which may affect
generalizability. Future research should explore cross-industry comparisons, leadership roles, and cultural
influences to develop more effective intervention strategies. Addressing workplace bullying proactively can
contribute to a healthier and more productive work environment
