Abstract:
In the globalization era, the rapid development of business creates the competitions and opportunities
of employee business. The objectives of this study are to identify the significant impact of the job embeddedness
on the retention of management assistant employees in a semi government sector organization in Colombo
District, Sri Lanka. There are two main variables such as job embeddedness as an independent variable and
dependent variable is employee retention. Job fit, links and sacrifice were considered as the dimensions for job
embeddedness. In this study, the accessible population was the management assistant employees in a semi
government organization in Colombo District of Sri Lanka. It was 242 employees. The sample size of this
research study was 148 employees and a cadre of employees in a semi government organization would be the
sample framework. The stratified random sampling (disproportionate) was used as the sampling method. In this
study a self-administered questionnaire with closed ended questions was developed. This questionnaire was
distributed through google forms. All the items were assessed using a five-point Likert scale with the responses
ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). Quantitative research method was used in this study.
The data collected were statistically analysed and reported in descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and
regression analysis. The analysis was conducted using SPSS 30 software. This study found that the job
embeddedness positively influences on employee retention. In addition, job fit, links and sacrifice have positive
impact on employee retention. This research study only focused on a selected semi government organization
(Head Office) in a Colombo District. However, this can be further extended to other semi government
organizations and regional offices of that selected organization. Also, the generalizability of the findings of the
present study was limited. A self-administered questionnaire with closed ended questions was used to data
collection. It would be better, if the future studies could use various data collection methods to collect data. The
findings of the study confirmed that the job embeddedness positively and significantly impacts on the retention
of management assistant employees in a semi government sector organization in Colombo District, Sri Lanka.
