Abstract:
This study examines the impact of workforce diversity on employee performance in the apparel
industry, focusing on Apparel Companies in the Kurunegala district. Workforce diversity, particularly gender
diversity and work experience diversity, has been increasingly recognized as a crucial factor influencing employee
performance. The research aims to assess how these diversity dimensions affect employee performance and
contribute to organizational success. Quantitative research methodology was employed, utilizing both primary
and secondary data collection methods. A structured questionnaire was administered to 335 machine operator level employees from two selected apparel companies in the district. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS
statistical software, incorporating descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The
findings indicate that gender diversity significantly influences employee performance, with an increase in gender
diversity positively affecting employee output. Similarly, work experience diversity also impacts performance.
The regression analysis confirms that variations in employee performance can be explained by workforce diversity
factors. This study highlights the importance of effectively managing workforce diversity to enhance employee
performance. Organizations should implement policies that promote inclusivity and equal opportunities,
particularly in gender representation and experience-based decision-making. Future research should explore
additional diversity dimensions, such as educational background, ethnicity, and cultural diversity, to provide a
more comprehensive understanding of workforce diversity’s impact on employee performance in the apparel
sector.
